New Kiriti FCS is a three wet mill society named Gonda. Kayu and Kirimahiga. The cooperative society was registered on 14th October. 1998 and the main office is located at Kayu wet mill. Kihoya sub-Location. Kangema District, Murang·a county. The society is about 17 kilometers from Kangema town and 110 km from Nairobi city.
Selective hand picking of red ripe cherries is practiced by farmers of Gonda wet mill. New Kiriti FCS Ltd. The harvested cherries are delivered for pulping at the wet mill the same day. After pulping, the pulped beans are fermented for mucilage removal for 16-18 hours thereafter the beans are washed and graded. The parchment Is then dried under the sun to a moisture content of 10.5 -11.5%.
The dry parchment Is then hulled,graded, sorted, bagged and marketed by Sustainable Management Services Ltd either through the Nairobi Coffee
Exchange Auction or direct Sale to overseas buyers. Interestingly, Kenya has two rainfall seasons, short and long. The length of the rainfall season Is
directly linked to theslze of the crop harvest. The average rainfall In this
region Is 1200-1400mm per year. This high level of rainfall coupled with a
high altitude of 1900 MASL makes for great coffee-growing conditions.
